Picked one piece at a time

Autumn & April is a small boutique, and a real person stands behind it. Ann chooses every piece herself, the way a shopkeeper does, with an eye for what feels good to wear and easy to live in. This site is here so you can get a feel for the boutique whether you live nearby or far away.

About

About Autumn & April

A boutique with a real shopkeeper, and the story of how it began.

Autumn & April started as a booth in Painted Tree, a shared marketplace where a number of small shops kept their own space under one roof. The booth was easy to spot. Layered serif and script lettering on whitewashed shiplap, soft beige and black, the kind of sign you would stop and photograph. Inside that small space, Ann carried clothing, jewelry, and accessories at honest prices, picked one piece at a time.

The name is a personal one, and the boutique has always been run the personal way. Ann chooses everything herself. She looks for pieces that are easy to wear, easy to mix with what you already own, and priced so they feel like a good decision rather than a splurge. Nothing lands in the booth that she would not be glad to talk you through.

Painted Tree has since closed, and the booth closed with it. That was the end of one chapter, not the end of the boutique. Ann is setting up again at a new marketplace booth, the same kind of shared space, with the same name and the same eye behind it.

This website is the part that is new. It is not a store, and there is nothing to buy here. It is a way for the boutique to be found by people who cannot stop by in person, whether they live a few miles away or across the country. It gives you a feel for what Autumn & April carries, and it points you to the booth so you can come see it for yourself.

What to Expect

What to Expect

Here is the feel of the boutique. Not a list of everything in it, since the booth changes as Ann finds new pieces, but a sense of the style and the kind of things she carries. Autumn & April keeps it to three simple groups: clothing, jewelry, and accessories. The way to see any of it, and take it home, is in person at the booth.

A floral-print blouse with embroidered detail, the kind of easy, wearable clothing Autumn & April carries.

Clothing

The clothing leans easy and wearable. Soft tops, relaxed knits, comfortable bottoms, layering pieces that work on their own or over something else. Ann looks for shapes that flatter without fuss and fabrics that feel good to put on, the kind of clothing you reach for because it is simple to wear, not because it is a project. Most of it mixes happily with what is already in your closet.

A bold curb-link chain necklace, the kind of finishing-touch jewelry Autumn & April carries.

Jewelry

The jewelry is the finishing touch. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and rings, some quiet and everyday, some a little bolder when an outfit can carry it. Ann picks pieces that feel current without chasing a trend too hard, so they still look right a few seasons on. A small piece of jewelry is often the thing that makes a plain outfit feel put together.

Jewelry is best seen up close, which is one more reason to come by the booth.

A slim leopard-print belt, the kind of accessory Autumn & April carries.

Accessories

Accessories are the extras that pull a look together. Bags, scarves, belts, hats, and the small things that round out an outfit. Ann treats this group the same way she treats the rest of the boutique, choosing pieces that are useful, that wear well, and that work with more than one thing you own. The right accessory does a lot of quiet work.
